During the last 40 years, fish-farming of pelagic fish species, primarily salmon and trout, has become a major industry in Norway. Farming takes place in nets along the Norwegian coastal waters. However, a new industry is on the rise. During the last 3-5 years land-based fish farming of salmon is about to open up as an interesting industry. Several concepts are being tried out, some more land-based than others, and some more eco-friendly than others. We may see true land-based salmon farms being established far away from coastal areas, thus fulfilling UN and EU development goals and green-deal requirements. VCS is delivering funding services to an interesting concept aiming to deliver land-based farming technology and competence for farming salmon in Europe and beyond.
